The Myth of Sisyphus is a fine specimen of aridness of misfortune of a hero who was coercion in nature by default, unable to ample to have a delectable deeds of life. The Myth of Sisyphus projects a tyrannical and benevolent archetypal of the condition of the Greek legend Sisyphus symbolizing the dichotomy of the power and powerlessness, fortune and misfortunes, furthermore, quite unsymmetrical practices onto the projection of this universe. By his psychological work The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus conveyed the journey of human beings as a futile, abash and vast prototype of apathetic life and managed to vouchsafe the strong establishment of human beings articulately. Sisyphus deserved to be bound up for all his mischievous deeds that Camus investigated through the existence of humankind of this rough universe. Though the story was based on Greek myth of Sisyphus, it allegorically symbolizes Sisyphus as the symbol of humankind and his work as the specimen of human existence too. This performance practice method includes mythological, philosophical, mathematical and musical analyses, as well as a technical explanation and instrumental tricks that will enlarge the performer’s creativity and freedom in interpreting this complex oeuvre.Īlbert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus strongly incorporates a fundamental conflict between what we want really from this universe and what we search in the universe, defining a clash between existence and being as non-existence. Unity Capsule Tests the performer because of the extreme length of such a complex piece, while Mnemosyne transcends the limits of information in notated music. Sisyphus Redux holds a real risk of experiencing Camus’ ‘philosophy of the absurd’, while Carceri d’Invenzione IIb confronts both the performer and the audience with the limits of unbearably high and loud registers. Where Cassandra’s Dream Song is a modern and complex transcription of an ancient myth, Superscriptio is a mathematically complex fight against the nature of the piccolo. After many years of practicing and researching these six pieces, I developed a performance practice method that may help aspiring flutists in the future while discovering this rich oeuvre. ![]() This dissertation is a musical, interpretational, analytical and motivating guide for flutists who desire playing Ferneyhough’s oeuvre. Besides understanding Ferneyhough’s compositional vocabulary, every piece also requires a different practicing method. Brian Ferneyhough wrote six challenging and complex pieces for flute solo: Cassandra’s Dream Song (1970), Unity Capsule (1975-1976), Superscriptio (1981), Carceri d’Invenzione IIb (1985-1986), Mnemosyne (1986) and Sisyphus Redux(2011).
